We see behaviour as a form of communication, not a problem to be controlled.
Every action has meaning, often shaped by a child’s past experiences, trauma, or
unmet needs. That’s why we don’t ask, “What’s wrong
with this child?” Instead, we
ask, “What has happened to them, and what are they
trying to tell us?”
Our commitment to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) means approaching every
situation with empathy, patience, and understanding. By focusing on connection
before correction, we create a safe environment where children feel heard,
valued, and supported.
Change happens when children feel safe — and that safety is built through consistency, predictability, and genuine connection. Using PBS, our teams:
- Look for patterns and triggers that may intensify challenging behaviours.
- Adapt routines and environments to reduce stressors.
- Provide alternative ways for children to express themselves.
- Support children in developing tools for self-regulation and resilience.
Rather than focusing only on behaviour in the moment, we work towards long-term growth, helping children gradually build the skills they need to cope and thrive.
Every child in our care has a personalised Behaviour Support Plan (BSP). These plans are co-created with the child, their key worker, therapeutic staff, and other professionals, ensuring they are:
- Child-centred : and easy to follow.
- Regularly updated as the child’s needs evolve.
- Grounded in what works best for them — emotionally, socially, and sensorially.
A BSP identifies:
- What helps a child feel safe and calm.
- How to respond when emotions become overwhelming.
- Practical strategies that prevent escalation.
- Positive ways to guide behaviour while preserving trust.
The goal is not just to manage difficult situations but to create a pathway for children to build confidence, control, and hope for the future.
PBS is ultimately about improving quality of life — not just for the moment, but in ways that last into adulthood. Through this approach, children feel:
- Seen and understood, not judged.
- Supported and empowered, not controlled.
- Encouraged to grow at their own pace.
By creating a caring, structured, and consistent environment, we help children to take positive steps forward — learning new ways of expressing themselves, building trusting relationships, and developing emotional resilience.
We understand that progress takes time, but with patience and compassion, PBS helps every child feel more in control of their world — and more hopeful about their future.
